Hello friends i hope all of u are doing well. yesterday i got an unsual enquiry for classical guitar with 12 strings and with pickup with 3 tone level controls. had ever anyone made a 12 string classical guitar? wat will be thickness for back and soundboards as well as neck and should i modify the bracing too? where can i find the strings and tuning keys? any help will be appreciated thanks in advance ![[:Y:]](./images/smilies/smiley20.gif "Thumbs Up")

http://www.schrammguitars.com/gran.html Here is a ink to Schram, who makes GRAN guitars. I am not sure if this is what you mean. According to the site, the GRAN design is patented, so you should not be building exactly like it. If you have something else in mind, Schram might advise you. |

Narciso Yepes played a 10 string classical - 10 single strings. You can find him on you tube. Another possibility would be stringing in double strung courses similar to a lute. Thicknesses of soundboard and bracing will depend on the style of guitar you want to build. Strings can either follow lute stringing (doubled courses) or harp guitar stringing (single strings). For tuning keys you can make and add covers to the rollers of a set of 12 string slot head tuners. |

A little ironic Shram being granted the use of a Russian patent. Maybe it's changed but I don't think patent infringement was ever a consideration of anything made in Russia in the past. I remember seeing something on Beatle records being pressed by the state run record manufacture. Fortunately I think the Beatles did not too badly without those royalties.

It's not exactly a new idea since 12 string (6 double courses) preceded the 6 string guitar. http://www.earlyromanticguitar.com/erg/evolution.htm The old ones used tuning pegs, obviously... For the strings, perhaps purchase a baroque 10 string set and add one more course (low E). At least a couple companies sell them. |
